Happy Sunday!
Blue sky days are plentiful at this time of the year. As summer draws to a close, the blue of the sky is intense, particularly when there are no clouds.
The blue backdrop heightens the beauty of the magnificent gum tree on my walk. The sight catches my breath and I’m in awe of nature’s magnificence!
Having lived in a few different countries, I’ve not seen the same blue as I experience in this part of Australia.
It’s one of the joys of my life to walk under the blue sky and be immersed in the bush that surrounds the waterways here. My heart is lighter, my mind clearer and the early morning sun strengthens my resolve to be a fit older woman!
During summer, the flowering gums put on an amazing display. How the bees love them, and no wonder. Just look at this delightful, sunshine yellow!
It’s commonly known as the “Red Capped Gum” or “Illyarie” in Noongar, an Australian Indigenous language.
It has unusual four lobed red bud caps that open to reveal bright yellow flowers.
Recently my husband found a walking track we’d not visited before around the banks of the river and near where houseboats are moored.
To my astonishment there was an old barge called “Reliance” from 1875 sitting in the low waters. What stories it could tell!
My eldest son has been busy in the kitchen honing his baking skills. I laughed when he said “baking is great but gee it creates lots of dishes!”
He’d originally planned to make gingernut biscuits, using this recipe. (You can easily swap out the plain flour for a gluten-free version.)
However, he substituted the ginger and cinnamon for cinnamon and nutmeg, and the golden syrup for maple syrup.
The cinnamon and nutmeg flavor was so tasty. I adore sweet, spiced biscuits! They were crunchy and crispy on the outside and the center was slightly chewy.
In case you missed it.
