👀 Last week’s top read: Justine Doiron’s eclectic mix of late-summer recipes.
Now for this weekend’s recommended reads…
The beautiful complexities of Deflected Double Weave.
Here’s
’s story of navigating a daunting weaving technique through trial and error, resulting in beautiful, textured towels. It's a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the magic of learning a new skill comes from embracing the mess.
The "Wool-gathering" ethos.
's new publication, Wool-gathering, will be a delight for anyone who values the quieter, contemplative aspects of creativity. In her first post, Becca shares her meditations on the term 'wool-gathering,' a metaphor she extends to her approach to life and art.
This term, traditionally meaning indulgence in aimless thought, reflects her favor for process over product in her fiber arts practice.
Daily treats for yourself.
I've always believed in the little joys that punctuate our otherwise hectic lives, and
reinforces this beautifully with her approach to daily treats:“There’s nothing frivolous about giving yourself the gift of enjoying your life, as many times throughout your day as you can manage. Not only do you get enjoyment from the treat itself, but you slowly begin to understand that you do, in fact, deserve to have the small and simple pleasures that you want.”
Beyond the velvet rope (unlocked for you this week!) you’ll find:
A vibrant atlas of mushroom dyes.
A meticulous drawing of NYC's Chinatown.
Plus! The books I’ve loved recently, a delightful journaling community, and beautiful still lifes, …
A vibrant atlas of mushroom dyes.
The Mushroom Color Atlas is a door to a magical world I never knew existed! This online resource, created by Julie Beeler, isn't just about the hues you can get from mushrooms but is an invitation to explore the world of fungi.
A meticulous drawing of NYC's Chinatown.
What a treasure to find Myles Zhang's detailed drawing of Manhattan's Chinatown! It shows the unique blend of the crowded tenements against the stark backdrop of Lower Manhattan’s skyscrapers.
Capturing this vibrant neighborhood within the boundaries of Bowery, Canal Street, and Columbus Park, Zhang invested about 60 hours into this creation! He also made a mesmerizing time-lapse video to share his process.
I adored listening to Artfully Yours by Joanna Lowell. The characters and their antics made me laugh out loud. The story was read by Mary Jane Wells and her voice characterisations were fabulous!
I’m currently listening to the The Dig by John Preston. I’ve done a little bit of research about the Sutton Hoo dig that this story recreates. Just fascinating!
A new, welcoming community for nature journalers.
These beautiful, moody still lifes of fruit by Hannah Jones.

Before you go…
We were able to see many of the the Sutton Hoo artifacts at the British Museum when we visited London last year. What a treat!! I recommend the film with Ralph Fiennes.
