Comfort from blankets. My mother died seven years ago, after receiving the best, thoughtful palliative care, on the night Trump was elected, in a municipal long term care home in Ontario, Canada. The staff were excellent and cared fiercely about their mission to the community. They have a tradition the night nurse shared with me and my sister: when residents die, they are carried, covered in a locally made quilt, used for this purpose, to the place where they rest till arrangements are made. The respect and the empathy still comfort me.

So much here Jodie. I’m glad knitting is comforting you on your healing journey, and I’m hoping you have a full recovery. I love your son’s persistence and willingness to try new ways. And let them go if they aren’t for him.

Love all the purple here--the yarn and the gorgeous tree! Thank you for those photos.

Maybe we need to rename stockinette from mindless to mindful knitting. It is soothing. It helps me just be--the rhythm, the predictability, the slow but sure creation of a lovely fabric that I made.

I’ve loved watching your progress on the blue tee. Thank you for sharing it as you go. The construction, the color, your comments all make me happy.

Hope you recover well and completely, Jodie. I love how your kiddo is willing to experiment and improve his knitting. Love those socks you made for your mom. And the shawl looks brilliant. The 'kite' shaping can consume more yarn than other shapes. Hamish came across as a bit blunt to me too and Agatha Raisin wasn't impressive either. I thought I had picked a bad one from series. Oh well!

Thanks so much for your kind words and praise Kavitha. That's interesting to know that the "kite" shaping can consume more yarn. I think because we both enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club series characters so much; Hamish and Agatha really didn't stand a chance! :)

So much goodness in this post! Really excited to see you recommending a post about Roosimine knitting - my knitting guild taught this technique at a meeting last year and I've been so fascinated by it ever since. Such a stunning knitting method!

Thanks so much Kelsey. The Roosimine knitting technique is delightful. Have you tried it? I envy you having access to a knitting guild. The closest one to me is a 7 hour drive away!

I did try it! I haven’t knitted a full project using the technique yet but I’m hoping to soon. My knitting guild really is amazing, I’m so grateful to have it!

I hope you continue to recover Jodie. Those socks are stunning and I’m sure the dragon helped her fight. Knitting brings so much comfort, in the making, in the wearing and in fond memories.

Thank you very much Linda. Mum mentioned that she felt I was with her in spirit, when she sat in the chemo ward wearing the Smaug Socks.
